Sun Burn

Well here starts our last days of relaxation before returning to reality.

I spent last night reading the last few chapters of my course in preparation for today. Today I’m going inside the wreck properly and training the skills needed to stay safe and manage risk. This is beyond Aimi’s qualification because its deeper and boring if your not doing the course so she’s gone off with another guide for a fun dive.

Open Water Diver

Aimi has been training these last few days with a chinese girl called Luna. Shes very enthusiastic and enjoys waving when saying hello or good bye, its very cute. Her English is incredibly good, only the occasional word pronounced wrong but really, she’s fluent. I know native born Englishmen who have a hard time using the language.

Emerald Bay Turtles

This morning started very uncomfortably. Whilst we may have conquered the mountain of food last night, we were paying for it this morning. Both of us just had a plate of fruit for breakfast, and I didn’t even finish all mine. I was still full and uncomfortably bunged up.

Liberty Wreck

This morning we were up and breakfasted, ready to go with German efficiency. Today Aimi carries on her course under the tutelage of Ricardo, the German owner of the dive resort. I’m off to the local wreck, USAT Liberty with the chubby ozzy and a local guide.

Aimi Takes The Plunge

It’s taken a lot of convincing, support and fun dives, but Aimi has decided to get her Open Water certificate in diving.

Jungle Juice

After a disagreement last night about what we’d do today, it was raining this morning. So we lay in, took it easy and enjoyed walking slowly along the garden path with a big umbrella arm in arm.

Ridge Walk

Well not sure why that got all the rave reviews on google. I try not to have expectations, but the reviews and then locals we met had all said the ridge was “really beautiful” and “amazing”. But it was just an overgrown path that you could have found behind any council estate set of garages. Except this one had a few palm trees…

After a lot of waiting and crowd dodging, I got this one good photo. The view was ok, but getting to the ridge walk actually ended up being far more interesting.

Rafting

After an hour’s drive to pick up some other guests, we passed our hotel again. A further 10 mins up the road we arrived at the rafting centre, after being warned not to discuss our ticket price with anyone…

Paddies and Pedi’s

Well I may have judged Ubud harshly. I think I might have been tired or the rapid change from disciplined calm in Japan to frantic mayhem here was a shock, because today was a lot more enjoyable.
