DOACC: Flooring pt.1

It was looking a bit grey and drizzly today so this was going to have to be quick. I had collected the insulation and batons yesterday evening so I just had to stick them in.

Except I didn’t have enough glue…

A quick trip to the local hardware shop for 3 tubes of gorilla glue and we were back in business.

I arranged all the batons longitudinally, in line with the floor ribs of the van. This is because the wood is about 33mm square and when sitting in the troughs level up perfectly with the 25mm insulation that sits on top.

I didn’t want any horizonal batons because I figured that if for whatever reason water gets into the floor through bolt holes or whatever, I’ve left full length gaps at the bottom of the troughs for it to run out the rear doors when parked on our hill.

Having bought 3.6m lengths of wood, there was hardly any cutting to do and it all glued in easy enough. Then I used a Stanley knife to score and snap the insulation to size and dry fitted it in place. I bought 1 too many sheets of insulation, so now I’ve no idea what to do with it.

Finally, I temporarily put back in the shaped plywood floor so I could walk over it this weekend. I would have fitted the proper plywood floor, but the type of plywood I wanted was out of stock, so that will have to wait. In the mean time, I loaded up the floor with as much heavy stuff as I could find… I tell ya… That was fun lugging it all up a gravelly hill just to take it out again 12 hours later…
