Diary Of A Camper Conversion
Some more carpet has arrived so this afternoon I wanted to tackle a small but rewarding job.
Having previously cut out the ply to cover the rear doors, I could now cover them and finish this section. It was as simple as unscrewing them and laying them out on the carpet, cutting it to a rough size and then using spray glue to stick it on.
Its a large area so I went slowly and made sure there were no creases and then folded over the edges and stuck them to the back to get a nice edge. This is really important to me because most DIY vans you see have spray glue everywhere and fuzzy, wobbly edges which would drive me nuts.
I also got to carpet the small bits of mounting plywood I previously screwed and glued to the door. My plan worked perfectly. The small crack I created between the metal and the wood had the edge of the carpet tucked into and gave a really clean edge.
The only down side of covering ply panels and not just gluing directly to the van, is that you see fixings. But I bought black headed screws and they are nearly invisible in the carpet so I’m very happy about that.
It didn’t take long, but makes the (top half of the) rear doors look amazing and keeps me motivated to continue making progress
