DOACC: Sack It Off

Diary Of A Camper Conversion

Well the plan was a solid one, but ultimately floored.

Yesterday I spent some time, while listening to a webinar, building frames for the skylights. This is to hold the bent bits of hardboard and the ceiling when it is put up. So I built the frames to fit the skylight trim with the hard-board in place so it was all the correct size.

Of course I knew it was all going to easily because when I came to put them in the van today they did not fit. And the problem was not with my craftsmanship but that the hardboard has a thickness which would leave a visible gap. Unfortunately this means all my work bending the hard board was for nought.

As I have been encapsulating the whole van living space with a vapour barrier, I needed to tape this in place before progressing. And it turns out that the black plastic has a similar visual matte black finish to the aluminium trim. I’m not super thrilled to have plastic on display but for now it will do, I can always cover it with carpets or some sort of laminate later.

I also started work on covering the rear door pillars in carpet. This has to go on before the wall panels to make sure it is tucked behind them and creates a seamless transition. I was a little worried about putting this on but it seemed to go quite easily.
