Long Lysefjord

We were up far too late last night watching the sunset from the roof of the cabin. This far north it doesn’t get dark till well gone 11pm and then it starts getting light early. Without meaning to, we had ourselves a really long day and then woke early. More sleep was needed but we were eager for the next walk I’d found; the Fantapytten

Nothing to do with the fizzy drink, this is a natural rock formation up on the rugged mountains that creates an “infinity pool”… supposedly. Arriving after a long and hot hike I was greeted with a muddy pond. I’ve been confronted with more inviting puddles beneath underground trains. This was not something I really wanted to lower my body into. But I got a sexy pic on the edge of infinity anyway.

In all honestly, I hadn’t held much hope for a mountain top dip. We just had an amazing time hiking these trails. The route I’d found took us higher and higher overlooking Lysefjord, right on the edge of the cliffs. We couldn’t believe just how good the view was, so took loads of photos, then 15 mins later, higher up it was even more spectacular!

But it was hot again today. No sign of the 15 degC weather Aimi had promised me; I was hiking in trousers! After a while we started to complain how far away it was to the Fantapytten. In truth we were just making really slow progress because we kept stopping to take photos!

At several locations there were short ladders or bridges which added to the sense of adventure. But we couldn’t resist for long, eventually we were going to climb something. There looked like a pretty easy route up to one of the supporting peaks in this range, so we boldly set off. It was an easy scramble, but the severity of consequence increased every meter higher we climbed. It was nice to get some hands on rock again, I’ve missed it.

Topping out, we saw the red dots marking the path head off away from where we had finished scaling. Now second guessing our choices we headed in the general direction we thought we should go and eventually picked up the trail again! There are so many red dots it’s hard to lose the trail for long.

We turned the trail into a circular to cut down the distance a bit because Aimi was getting blisters. This led us over a wide dome of rock just below Hatten with random rocks littering the landscape. Then it abruptly changed and we were surrounded by a beautiful smelling pine forest.

Home via a supermarket for an ice-cream, we snoozed on the sofa enjoying the view. It was only 4pm but we had earned it. After dinner i have another go at the drone that seems to pick up the satellites much more easily now it’s had a few goes. I’m not sure why.

I gave it’s first flight testing the return to home feature and it’s wobbly AF. I was watching it the whole time, fighting the wind, and took over before it got too out of hand. It’s impressive that it can come back to its home point, but i think it would do better on a larger, more stable drone. This one is so heavy for it’s size when it’s got the insta 360 go3s onboard. It’s really only for indoor or very slow outdoor flights. Oh well, another drone needed haha!
