Over Indulgence

Last night was awful. Without wanting to put anyone off their porridge, I spent the whole night vomiting up and pooping out everything I had ever eaten since I was 5.

It could have been any number of things, or a combination of;

  • The several times i went in and out of freezing cold lake water
  • The hot tub that had been used by god only knows how many people
  • Sitting in the sun as day and not drinking much
  • Drinking fjord water direct from source (apparently the water in their taps comes straight from a personal pump sitting on the fjord bottom)
  • Drinking a few to many beers once back at the AirBnB
  • Eating left over Thai food all day.

Not that I drink very much any more or very often, but whenever I do over do it, I don’t (usually) end up clearing out my colon. But i think it was a combination of all of the above. Especially the Thai food. Just thinking about it now is making me feel vomitty.

As the driver on the rental car, and this being our last day in the area there was no option but to suck it up and move on. Tomorrow we are flying out of Oslo so we need to get there tonight. I nibbled at some bread and sipped water and pushed our check out time to the limit before easing myself into the driver’s seat and setting off. Aimi was being very sweet and trying to look after me, but there was little she could do apart from carry the bags.

The 4 hour drive turned into 7 hours as I had to stop several times. Some for toilet breaks, and once for a snooze. I’d had almost no sleep and so needed it.

Eventually we arrived in Oslo and the hotel. I knew Aimi is not a fan of cities and so I had done my best to find a nice hotel. The Christian Theatre Hotel was our reward. A beautiful Art Deco styled hotel opposite the national theatre. I had found us a deal on a suite for our last night and we both agreed, this was the best hotel we had stayed in. The bed was movie star big and swallowed us up in it’s soft, thick cushions. Just 5 mins laying on this and I was already feeling a little better. Probably something to do with being out of the car too.

Braving food, we head to the restaurant. This beautifully decorated and luxurious room served only pizza and ice cream. Food known for their healing abilities. I really wanted something interesting, but opted for a safe margarita. Nothing was going to stop Aimi having ice cream so we got a selection between us. Certainly the best ice cream we have ever had.

I still felt wobbly but food and rest sorted me out. We enjoyed the size of the room and watched “Brooklyn” on the big TV before bed
