Look a Little Loch

Last full day in Scotland of our little holibobs and we are taking an easy stroll around a little loch. It’s still 6km, but relatively flat.

Todays loch is also the moat of Eilein Castle. Setting off we soon realised the walk would be mostly trees with occasional glimpses of the loch. Still it was a nice walk, if a little uneventful. We did find what I was sure was an enchanted tree.

This walk was a little more sanitary than the brush bashing we usually do. The track was quadbike wide all the way around and nicely smooth. It was a change to be able to walk hand in hand without having to look at your feet the whole time. Well… hand in hand as long as the dogs allowed before they got leads tangled again.

We had finished the walk pretty quickly and head off to Coffee Bothy for another lunch. Cant get enough of this place. Its wonderful. Aimi had hotdog and I had smashed avocado bagel with bacon! The dogs will remember this place forever more. The lovely cook has come out twice with huge door steps of ham and turkey. I could literally see Kaytos eyes popping out his head as he snaffled it down.

Surprisingly there were no geocaches at the loch, so I did a cache n dash in Newtonmore before a quick stop in Aviemore for some shopping.

As luck would have it, there was a cache right outside the house in the woods. It was dark now and i cannot recommend walking in the deep dark woods at night. It was creepy. Especially reading the cache description that it was hidden on top of a red squirrel skeleton. The owner had named a squirrel Mr Hangman because he used to hang down from branches to get onto the bird feeder. When he died, he was given a headstone in the woods, which is the location of the cache.

It was pretty wet in the box (most are) but as it was right next to the house, I brought it in and cleaned it up. Dried out the log book, added my entry and put it back. I added a trackable I’ve been carrying in the van for WAYY TOO LONG. If you want to see where its been and where its going, check here and maybe join this worldwide treasure hunt!
